If you suffer from a misalignment in your body one of the most common tell-tale signs of this is that the heel of your shoes may wear out more quickly on the inside or outside (depending on the misalignment). Do your shoes wear out unevenly? Here’s what can cause this to happen, and what you can do about it.
When you walk or run, you may be placing different proportions of weight on different parts of your foot. Over-pronation is a common problem and occurs when your foot rolls inward more than normal when you walk or run. Because the weight does not distribute equally throughout the foot in this case, it can cause your shoes to wear more quickly on the inner edges of your shoe soles.
On the flip side of this is supination – this is the outward roll of the foot, and when this is severe, it can be the reason that your shoes wear out on the outside more quickly than on the inside. It can also be quite painful, as it causes muscle strain around the ankle and can lead to ankle injuries and sprains.
What can be done for uneven shoes?
The first thing most people do is visit a podiatrist who can give them expert advice on their specific foot condition and help them manage it before it gets any worse. They may also recommend orthotic inserts for shoes to counteract your natural tendency to put more weight on one side than another.
When you purchase running shoes or shoes for exercise, pick the styles that suit your gait and foot type to make sure that your foot and ankle are properly supported. You should also have your feet properly measured to ensure you’re wearing the right size and width to support your feet.
When it comes to picking everyday shoes, find a pair with a good sole. Most of our expertly crafted handmade shoes have Goodyear welted soles making them extremely comfortable and durable, and with the excellent attention to detail in the manufacturing of each pair, you can be sure you’re investing in a quality pair of shoes. If you find that you’re wearing your shoes out too quickly, try not to wear the same pair every day. Your leather shoes, in particular, need a break to help them keep their shape and let moisture evaporate from them.
If you need to have your shoes resoled, don’t leave them until they have holes in them otherwise this can be a lengthy and costly process to fix.
