Choosing Sunglasses to Suit your Face Shape

Sun’s out and it’s time to embrace the weather with a new pair of sunglasses. Are you wearing the right style to suit your face shape? Do you give much thought to it when choosing sunglasses? The difference in wearing the right pair versus the wrong pair is remarkable, and with so many shapes and styles available you’ll find that some suit you better than others (and there are some that should be totally avoided!) Read on to find out how choosing sunglasses to suit your face shape is easier than you think.

Let’s take a look at the men’s sunglasses trends for 2016 first, as often your choice will be limited the style currently in vogue. Some of the key brands you’ll no doubt have heard about are Oakley and Ray Ban, however when you’re choosing sunglasses to suit your face shape don’t be afraid to branch out and try different designers. This season, the classic aviator shades are still a style staple, and round frame glasses are also making a comeback thanks to a revival of 1920’s and 1930’s fashion. Mirrored sunglasses are a dramatic look to pull off, so perhaps not for everyone but if you’re on holiday this year and you want to try out a new look then this could be your chance.

To choose the perfect sunglasses for you, first identify your face shape – is yours more round or square? Perhaps an oval or a heart shape?

If your face is round, you’ll want to add definition so you’re better sticking to styles that have defined edges, and avoid anything round or oval which will only draw attention to your round face. The best styles for you are aviator frames, wrap sunglasses or rectangle frames.

Similarly, people with square faces or strong square jawlines should avoid choosing sunglasses that have square or rectangular frames, and instead soften your strong face structure with wayfarer or browline shades.  These sunglasses also suit people with oval face shapes so they are a very versatile purchase if you are struggling to pick a pair.

Inverted triangles and heart-shaped faces are lucky enough to be able to pull off a multitude of sunglasses styles – from the classic aviators, the very modern geometric style and the ‘love-them-or-loathe-them’ wrap around glasses.

Once you’ve found your ideal shape (and hopefully this blog will have reduced the need to a lot of unnecessary trying on) you need to pick ideal colours and lenses, so you should always complement your hair colour and skin tone to make then a really natural fit for your face. For a classic style that won’t date, stick to black – it is really a style staple for any modern man’s wardrobe.

Sunglasses aren’t just a summer accessory anymore, so spending time to get it right now will ensure you have a solid investment in statement eyewear that will see you through every season.
