We recently joined forces with local racing hero Wayne Boyd, who has been a racing driver competing internationally for a decade, and is now our brand ambassador at Robinson’s Shoes. We thought you’d want to know more about the man behind the wheel, and of course wearing our shoes. Read on to find out more about Wayne, and why we’re so excited to have him on board.
Who is Wayne?
Twenty-five year old Wayne, originally from Templepatrick in County Antrim, shot to international fame after his domination at the very prestigious British Formula Ford Championship and the British Formula Ford Festival in 2008. Out of 25 races that season, he podiumed (i.e. placed in the top 3) at 20 of those races, claiming the pole in 15, and winning 13. He went on to win the Formula Ford Festival that same season (the first driver since Jenson Button to win both in the same year), and in 2015, he won the Festival again – the only guy to do it twice!
Since then, he has enjoyed success competing at races all over the world and when he’s not travelling the world and racing cars for a living, Wayne is most likely to be found running, cycling, swimming, rowing, and lifting weights and generally being an exercise junkie. Expect to see a lot more from this young man, as he follows in the footsteps of his idols Kimi Raikonen and Valentino Rossi.
Wayne and Robinson’s Shoes are both hot Northern Irish exports, so working together felt like a very natural fit, and of course when it comes to expertly fitted shoes there’s no one who knows their stuff better than we do. After visiting us for a personalised fitting, Wayne stepped out in a very stylish pair of Barker McClean brogues with intricate wingtip and toe punched detailing.
Speaking about the experience, Wayne commented “It’s always been important to me to represent Northern Ireland. I live in one of the greatest places on earth and I’m proud to be born and raised in Templepatrick. When you travel here for the scenery or golf, a pint, and good craic, you ought to add custom shoes to your list too. Robin and everyone on the team are passionate about the craft that is rooted in tradition. Having a proper fitting shoe is really a gift.”
You can catch Wayne in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS), a European sports car racing endurance series this summer, and keep up to date with his racing schedule and qualifying stats on his website www.wayneboydracing.com
