Fashion is an important part of football - on and off the pitch. With the 2018 World Cup kicking off in Russia, we have scrutinised each kit that will be worn by the players of the 32 competing countries. This year's kits are a real mix of the good, the bad and the ugly. With this in mind we have come up with a clever way (if we do say so ourselves) of supporting your country without compromising style.
Inspired by the colourful Barker hand-painted collection, we have chosen 11 pairs of shoes that match the kits of the biggest teams in this year’s World Cup. Check it out for the perfect pitch-side (or bar-side) attire.
Spain’s 2018 kit embraces a throwback tribute to the jersey’s worn in 1994 with their 2018 kit. Adidas have tried something a bit different with the snazzy retro blue and yellow pattern down the right hand side. Whether this kits is to your taste or not, why not reflect the vibrancy of the kit with the hand-painted Barker Valiant in daring red?
Gold from top to bottom, with green detailing on the shoulders - Nike has created an Australian kit that is a significant change from the traditional gold shirt with green shorts. If you’d like to support the Aussies in a more subtle way then our Andrew Jackson brogues are just the ticket.
Adidas pays tribute to Germany’s Italia 90 jersey with Germany’s new kit with three grey swooshes across the chest, a twist to the German tricolour. We think these Dubarry Racer deck shoes in white and grey looks just as slick as the defending World Cup champ’s kit.
Uruguay will be heading to Russia sporting their classic silver-blue strip from Puma. The finer details like the transparent print of the Sun of May and the black trim really make this shirt pop. The fine detailing in the blue hand-painted Barker Valiant brogue makes these shoes a perfect match for the two-time World Cup winner’s 2018 kit.
Adidas has created a kit that is traditional with a modern twist. The theme of the 2018 kit is a bit more conservative than previous years, we’re thinking of that out-there Mesoamerican motif on the 1998 kit. You can embrace some Mexican spirit with these classic green Tricker’s Axton.
A modern interpretation of the iconic 1993 design, the Adidas Argentina 2018 World Cup away kit is black with a sky blue and white stripe pattern on the upper sides. If you’re rooting for Lionel Messi, show support by rocking these black Barker Lester boots.
Brazil’s away kit is based on the same design as the home shirt - Royal blue with a unique star pattern covering the front. We think this kit is a winner, just like the stylish Barker Lennon in hand-painted blue with a grey canvas.
According to Adidas, this slick design is a nod to the traditional samurai armour. The dark blue and light-blue striped pattern used on Japan’s jersey can be recreated with these Barker Ashton’s with the subtle punched detailing.
England’s Kit features a white base with blue for logos and a modern knit pattern on the front. There is traditional blue piping around the Three Lions insignia with a silver star above the motif to symbolise England’s one and only World Cup triumph. These Barker Axel sneakers in white capture the modern take on a classic - which we think Nike were striving for with this strip.
The 2018 Belgium kit is bold and takes inspiration from the iconic 1984 top. If you want to shake things up like this Adidas design, try something a bit different with the Barker Lennon shoe in red with the canvas detailing.
Shirts and colours can define a nation at the World Cup. The beautiful game is made even more beautiful by the moments the fans create. Face paint, dyed hair and national songs are just some of the ways in which fans express their love of the sport. Here at Robinson’s we choose to show our passion for the World Cup the best way we know how - shoes!
