If you had a busy party season this Christmas and New year, your poor feet are probably feeling a little worse for wear. Sadly, with January well underway it’s back to the grindstone for most of us, which means there’s very little opportunity to stop and put your feet up for a while. Instead of suffering through it, why not try out one of these homemade foot soaks (they’re not just for the ladies!) and give your poor feet some TLC in just 30 minutes.

Lavender foot soak

What’s it good for? Lavender oil is an excellent natural remedy for aching muscles and insomnia – perfect if you’re having trouble finding your sleeping routine again after time off work.

How to make it:

  • ¼ cup of Epsom salts
  • 3-6 drops of lavender essential oil
  • One basin of hot (as hot as you can bear) water

Add your salts and lavender let them dissolve in the water. Soak your feet for half an hour to sooth aching muscles and let the lavender aroma help you relax and unwind – do just before bedtime for best results.

Peppermint foot soak

What’s it good for? Peppermint is fresh, clean and provides real zing, so it’s perfect for refreshing tired and sore feet, and improving circulation. It also makes a great foot scrub too, so one to keep on hand for the summer when you’re out and about in sandals.

How to make it:

  • ¼ cup of Epsom salts
  • Few drops of peppermint oil
  • Peppermint tea bag or loose leaf peppermint tea
  • One basin of hot water

As before, let your foot soak mix dissolve in water and then relax and let the soak do its work. You can also add green tea leaves if desired to the mix for further detoxifying benefits.

Eucalyptus foot soak

What’s it good for? Often used for treating heavy colds and coughs, eucalyptus oil has fantastic antibacterial properties, so in a foot soak it’s a very effective and natural way to prevent foot ulcers, bacteria growth and inflammation.

How to make it:

  • ¼ cup Epsom salts
  • 1-2 drops of eucalyptus oil
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • Squeeze of lime
  • 1-2 drops of peppermint oil

Add your mixture to your basin of hot water, and let your feet soak for 30 minutes. The baking soda is a great addition to prevent cracked heels which can become infected if dirt and bacteria get into them. For a lovely smell, you can add the lime and mint to this mix, but this is really down to personal preference.
